Martyrs Shrine Midland: A Place of Pilgrimmage

Martyrs Shrine Midland stands as a monument on a hill on the banks of the Wye River to remember and honour the lives and sacrifices of the eight Jesuit missionaries who lost their lives in the service of Christ: Saint Jean de Brebeuf, Saint Isaac Jogues, Saint Antoing Daniel, Saint Charles Garnier, Saint Noel Chabanel, Saint Rene Goupil, Saint Gabriel Lalemant and Saint Jean de Lalonde.

Neighbouring Sainte-Marie among the Hurons was the centre of the Jesuit mission in Huronia to the Wendat Huron nation for 10 years (1639 - 1649) and Ontario's first European community.

Martyrs' Shrine Midland is open May 20 to October 9 for the 2006 season. To learn more or to plan your visit visit our website.
